Buenos Aires, Dec 8 (NA) – Ten firefighters have passed the course for Operators of the Special Rescue Group (GER) of the City Fire Department. According to official sources from the Argentine News Agency (NA), the new division members carried out their activities at the Higher Institute of Public Safety, where technical and operational competencies for intervention in high-complexity situations were implemented. Seven applicants from the City Fire Department, one from the Jujuy Police Force, and two from the Argentine Naval Prefecture graduated in this edition. “The training focused on learning and performing rescue exercises at height using ropes, as well as on the use of specific techniques, manual tools, and hydraulic equipment for handling large loads,” the sources reported. The firefighters conducted swimming and rescue drills in the Río de la Plata, which included practices of descending from a helicopter, while rappel exercises from an aircraft to a surface were also applied. Additionally, there was a simulation of lowering victims from an elevated structure on the Old Bridge in the La Boca neighborhood via a 45-degree zip line. The course also consisted of a race that began in Caballito and ended in the Buenos Aires Aires district of Ezeiza, plus a 3-kilometer open water swim in the Río de la Plata.
